Sixty CaskForce pubs collect Beautiful Beer Award

The Black Horse in Nuthurst, West Sussex, has become the 60th pub to receive a Beautiful Beer Gold Award through the Marston’s CaskForce initiative

Each month since January, 10 pubs have been picked to have a Beautiful Beer assessment, funded by Marston’s. All 60 have passed the thorough ‘cellar to glass’ inspection and received a Beautiful Beer plaque to put outside their pub – as a guarantee to customers of the great beer served inside. Marston’s also gives each monthly winner a £500 cheque to spend on pub improvements. Finally, one pub per month goes through to the CaskForce grand final and the chance to win a rent-free year.

Over 500 pubs from Aberdeen to St Ives now hold the Beautiful Beer Award, most of them at the Gold level, which is a testament to the quality of the beer served in the pub. All pubs winning an Award receive a plaque, a certificate and help with marketing their achievement to local customers.

Clive Henwood, licensee of The Black Horse, commented, “We’re a village pub and don’t get a lot of passing trade. So, when we won the Beautiful Beer Award, it was a way to shout about the pub as a place to come to for a great beer. We’ve had good coverage in the local paper, our regulars talk about it and we’ve seen some new faces. And even though we’re a strong cask ale pub and have the Cask Marque Award, it’s good to have the Beautiful Beer one as it’s about our bottled beers as well.”

The Beautiful Beer Awards cover the entire beer category - bottled, keg and cask – and are available at two levels, Gold for a pub serving excellent beer, Platinum for a pub that also offers beer lists, beer and food matching and a variety of beer styles.
